In the world, there are a variety of ferrous and nonferrous materials.
At Gsm, we have plants dedicated to four specific materials that, with care and passion, we have been working on since 1986.
Let’s get to know them better by starting with the two main ones in which, each has a dedicated whole plant located within the company: the Zamak and Brass.
- Zamak: Zamak is a zinc alloy with small amounts of aluminum, copper and magnesium. It is prized for its affordability and versatility, and is often used in the production of die-cast components, such as insecticides and toys, although its corrosion resistance is lower than that of brass.
Its name is derived from its chemical composition: Zama, rooted in the German “Zamak,” which is nothing more than the union of the acronyms Z (Zinc), A (Aluminum), Ma (Magnesium), and K (Copper).
As we said before, the entire electroplating department 1 is dedicated to processing this material, making it, for us, very important.

- Brass: an alloy of copper and zinc, known for its high corrosion resistance and ease of machining. It is used in aesthetic and mechanical applications, such as faucets, electronic components and luxury accessories, due to its beauty and resistance to wear and tear.
For brass we have, again, an entire dedicated department, Galvanics 2.

- Stainless steel is an iron alloy containing at least 10.5 percent chromium, which gives the alloy considerable resistance to corrosion and rust. Due to its durability and hygiene, it is commonly used in kitchen utensils, medical equipment, and marine structures.
- Iron: is a widely used base metal for its strength and availability.
It is commonly used for structural constructions, vehicles and tools, but requires treatments to prevent corrosion, such as painting or electroplating.
